From last week’s news of the termination of Cunard president Peter Shanks and P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow, with effect from this September, one has to ask what kind of pressures have come to bear on Carnival UK that it should sacrifice two such long-standing executives? This story is not a recent one and dates back to the days of P&O Cruises prior to Carnival’s merger with P&O Princess Cruises in 2003 and the delivery of the Queen Mary 2 late in 2004. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, it was announced that former Carnival Cruise Lines president Bob Dickinson would be returning to Carnival Corp & plc as a consultant.
