A Cargo Ship Voyage: Rebecca Hall Sails From Athens to Hong Kong On Board Hanjin Boston And Records Her Impressions For All

Hanjin Boston

In late June, intrepid Brit and previous Cruise People customer Rebecca Hall (she was one of the last passengers to travel by banana boat) cast off from Athens’ port of Piraeus to sail round the Med and through the Suez Canal to Hong Kong.

En route Rebecca (pictured right, let’s call her Bex) made calls at La Spezia, Genoa,  Barcelona and Valencia before doubling back to Athens once more and then sailing direct via Suez to Singapore and Hong Kong.

In her own blog, Bex has recorded her impressions for those who may be interested in a similar voyage and you will find her reports here:

Rebecca Hall’s Voyage Blog On Board Hanjin Boston (and Ashore)

Her comments cover passengers travelling in cargo ships, joining ship, security matters, getting along with the crew, food on board etc, as well as various films and photos, such as this one of the Supercargo’s cabin in which Bex travelled (look at the size and those four bright windows):

Wow! I’m surprised that your room was so big!

    • Cargo ship accommodation is usually more spacious than that on cruise ships. Many of the German ships have suites with separate day room and bedroom and one of the French ships, CMA CGM Marco Polo, even has a private terrace.
