THE CRUISE EXAMINER at Cybercruises.com by Kevin Griffin
The Cruise Examiner for 7th October 2013.
One of the sure signs that autumn has arrived is the appearance of the latest edition of the annual Berltz Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships by Douglas Ward. This week, we have a look at the changes in the enlarged 2014 edition (50 more pages this year). Elsewhere, having lost Holland America Line’s Veendam last year, as its last regular caller to Front Street , Bermuda has voted to allow gambling on cruise ships that remain in port overnight. In exchange for being allowed to keep their casinos open between 9 pm and 5 am, cruise lines will have to pay a licencing levy to the Bermuda Government. Finally, at the request of travel agents, Carnival Cruise Lines has finally acquiesced and reinstated the paper brochure that it relegated to the dustbin five years ago. We look at other measures that Carnival is taking to reinvigorate its relationship with travel agents.
