The Cruise People Will Offer Australian Liner Voyages Until Container Ships Return

CMA CGM’s cargo fleet will not be carrying passengers again until 2022

Unlike North Americans and Europeans who have still been able to fly Transatlantic, dozens of Australians have been calling and emailing The Cruise People since they found themselves stranded in Europe after their flights back to Australia were cancelled. And cargo ships had stopped carrying passengers becuse of Covid-19. So here is what we have been able to offer for the next few months.

Normally, one can sail to Australia, either by cruise ship or by passenger-carrying container ship via Mauritius and Reunion. But Princess Cruises’ usual July cruise from Dover to Sydney has been cancelled this year and Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV’s) traditional pre-Christmas cruise from Tilbury to Sydney was cancelled after CMV could not afford to repatriate its crews after Covid-19 brought all cruising to a halt.

After ceasing the carriage of passengers in March 2020, CMA CGM, which operates the container ships, decided not to carry any passengers at all in 2021. The result of this will be no cargo-passenger service on the Europe-Australia route for 21 months!

The Joy of Solo Travel – Expedition Voyages With No Single Supplement And Solo Transatlantic For Less !

Going solo: Inspirational trip ideas for solo travellers – On the Luce travel blog

When the 17th Century English poet and scholar John Donne famously wrote that “no man is an island,” little did he realise that 400 years later, his words would ring so true with our modern, 24/7 digital and stressed society. While the world’s focus remains on tackling the deadly, global Covid-19 pandemic, we can’t ignore another serious threat to our society – loneliness, which is sadly progressing at an alarming rate across all age groups. Although loneliness is not a new occurance, it has been fuelled even further by the recent lockdowns, social isolation, distancing, as well as the ongoing uncertainity of the future. With over 9 million lonely people in just the UK, this is no longer a private matter for the individuals concerned, but a universal problem for governments. However, just like our cavemen ancestors, we instinctively know that feeling lonely and isolated is not good for us and that in order to thrive and survive in life,we need companionship and comfort from others,as no one in this world is truly self-sufficient.

The 198-berth Ocean Atlantic sails in Greeenland waters this summer

Our modern home comforts and advanced technology, are just simply not enough to satisfy our natural desire to be part of a like-minded group. We social creatures do badly when isolated from others, but as most of us will at some stage in our lives have to address the unpleasant feeling of loneliness – be it due to various life circumstances or simply by personal choice, it is worth remembering and clarifying that loneliness is not always the same as being alone. You may choose to be and live alone and still have a fantastic life with a packed social diary, while others find living on their own a very lonely experience. Equally, you may be in a relationship, have a family and friends and yet still feel lonely, unhappy and isolated. Luckily, loneliness doesn’t last forever and can be successfully rectified and managed. By making a plan and taking action to improve the situation, even small steps are all it takes to make a start. Meeting new, like-minded people, having a positive mindset and not letting loneliness get in the way of living your best life, can also make a huge difference to how you view your life and personal circumstances.

Personally, I’m a great believer that solo travel is one of the best and most enjoyable ways to tackle loneliness,so whether you are a first-time or regular solo traveller, making new friends and creating truly magical travel memories together can be a very empowering and transformational experience. The cruise and travel industry is finally catching on and finding a no-single supplement voyage is much easier now. The Cruise People team and I have always warmly welcomed solo travellers, so come and talk to us and let us assist you in planning your next unforgetable voyage.

With so many happy solo clients to date,we are here for you and if you are new to solo travel or feel nervous about venturing out on your own,why not drop me an email or call to discuss your options and concerns? Take the plunge and see for yourself the great benefits and advantages that solo travel brings. As Mark Twain – himself often a solo traveller – said : “Throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Anna M.Iwata – The Cruise People’s Life, Happiness and Wellness Coach.

Here are some examples of no extra cost solo travel that you can book with The Cruise People:

Ocean Victory | Albatros Expeditions
The new Ocean Victory and Ocean Albatros will include single cabins as well as a share programme

Two new ships operated by Albatros Expeditons, the 170-berth Ocean Victory and Ocean Albatros, will have dedicated single cabins, as well as offering single travellers the option of booking with a fellow passenger in either a male share or female share cabin. Antarctica, South America, the Arctic.

The 198-berth Ocean Atlantic, meanwhile operates a short 6-day Greenland and Disko Bay cruise from Kangerlussuaq and back on August 14, 2021. Flights are also available from Copenhagen. Enquire at The Cruise People Ltd in London for further details.

Meanwhile, Queen Mary 2’s year-long absence from her usual Southampton to New York trade has been no help to the various container ships that also carry a few passengers across the Atlantic. But two of these lines offer great price advantages to single travellers, as much as 40% less than Queen Mary 2.

The Independent Voyager is one of four ICL ships sailing from Southampton

The Independent Container Line service operates four ships in a weekly service from Southampton to Chester PA (Philadelphia) and return from Wilmington NC to Antwerp. The fare from Southampton to Chester is €1,558 per person in a double cabin or €1,510 for a sole use single cabin (3.1% less for a single).

A much longer 49-day round voyage from Bremerhaven to Charleston, Miami, Veracruz, Altamira, Houston and New Orleans then back to Lehavre, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Bremerhaven runs to €5,287.50 per person in a double cabin and €5,052.50 in a single cabin.(4.6% less for a single).
