Crystal Cruises Slows Its Tempo – Dream Cruises’ First New Ship – Genting Malaysia Sells Cruise Shares To Golden Hope

Over the past few weeks has come news that the various arms of Crystal Cruises are incurring delays or postponements in the delivery of new ships from what was originally announced. Now part of cruise operator Genting Hong Kong, Crystal shares quarters with Dream Cruises and Star Cruises in the pantheon of Genting cruise products.  Dream Cruises’ first new ship, the 3,400-berth Genting Dream, delivers in Germany this Wednesday. And out of Malaysia comes news of Golden Hope taking its interest in cruise operator Genting Hong Kong up to 64%.

This week, although it is early to say, we have a look at the potential impact of the UK leaving the EU on cruise shipping. Much of the reaction so far, as in many other industries, is wait and see, and react when necessary, but it will be a while before all of the effects are known. We also have a look at what is happening to Genting’s shipyards in Germany and report on some of the inital reactions to the opening of China COSCO Shipping-affiliated Southern Sea Cruises in China.

Norwegian Week – Other Cruise News: Genting Looking At Lloyd-Werft – Astor Returns To Australia In 2016-17

Tying in two of this week’s stories, Norwegian Cruise Line’s US-flag Pride of America was completed by Lloyd Werft in 2004.

Last week saw much news emanating from Norwegian Cruise Line. As well as producing a tidy profit, it announced returns to markets such as Asia and Australia, where it is opening new offices in Sydney and Hong Kong, as well as to South America. Meanwhile, minority Norwegian owner Genting Hong Kong, now owner of the Crystal and Star brands, is having a look at buying part of the Lloyd Werft shipbuilding business in Bremerhaven. Elsewhere, Cruise & Maritime Voyages has announced that Astor will return to Australia in 2016-17, this time sailing in both directions via Panama.
