Silver Moon And Seabourn Ovation – Coral Expeditions Order From Vard – APL Back In The Cargo-Passenger Business

The Cruise Examiner for 18th September 2017

Coral Expeditions

Coral Expeditions’s new 120-berth 307-foot expedition ship will be built by Vard’s shipyard in Vietnam

Last week, after some delay, Silversea finally announced that it would build a sister ship to the Silver Muse. This followed an announcement ages ago by Seabourn that it would build two ships of similar size, Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation, for the same upmarket range. Elsewhere, after winning four expedition ship orders from Ponant, two from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and a seventh from an unidentified owner,Vard has secured its eighth order for a similar ship, this time from Coral Expeditions of Australia. And a name from the past, APL, has re-entered the passenger trades after a very long absence, by starting to accept passengers on four of its modern container ships.

The Cruise Examiner for 10th April 2017

Silver Muse

Silversea’s latest vessel, the 596-berth Silver Muse, will be christened on April 16 at Monaco

Silversea chairman Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio has once again made reference to Silversea soon ordering three new ships for delivery in 2020, 2021 and 2023, but no further information has been announced. The company has been talking about three new ships since 2015. Elsewhere, Norwegian Cruise Line has stolen a march on its mass market competition by moving to Premium All Inclusive pricing in the UK and other European markets, but this pricing is not available in North America. And finally, a new operator has plans to expand the Queen Mary tourist attraction in Long Beach into a village called Queen Mary Island, with a second hotel, cafés, amphitheatre and other attractions, which will include the exisiting cruise terminal.

To be named Bravo, the cruise will sail from Southampton on May 19, 2018. This cruise follows four similar cruises scheduled from Sydney since 2014 in Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas. The Cruise Examiner for 15th February 2016

Seabourn Encore at seaRecently, Scenic and its sister line Emerald Waterways have been in the news, especially with Scenic’s planned expansion into ocean cruising in 2018. This week we have a closer look at their river operations in Europe. Elsewhere, with Seabourn president Rick Meadows in Europe, we look at their new 604-berth Seabourn Encore (above), due out in January, and how she compares with other ships such as Regent’s 750-berth Seven Seas Explorer, which enters service this summer. Finally, we have a quick look at what’s happening with cruise line stocks.
